Hawthorn are native to the northern hemisphere of Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe, and their red berries are tart treasures that have long been used in medicinal applications, primarily as a tonic for the heart.
According to Celtic folklore, the Hawthorn tree is also a magical and enchanted Being. The tree is the dwelling place of fairies and function as portals to the other side. Cutting down a fairy tree or sitting under one too long was said to bring ill luck. Associated with Beltane, its branches and blossoms were gathered in May and brought inside the home.
